Another pit firing...

 These pieces are burnished and then bisque fired. Then oxides are added and they are placed in the container you see in the photo above. Then wood, saw dust and whatever organic material we find goes in. It's lit, covered and left to burn. The whole process lasts about 10 hours.  

My first batch of maracas...

These high fired maracas were slab moulded were the result of collaborations with Shirley Emmerson (the tomato mould) and Raval de l'Art for their high fire kiln as well as advise from members of the Clay Buddies group on Facebook. These are just the beginning.

Using traditional techniques

These pieces were thrown and hand built. When they were "leather dry" I burnished them using one of my favorite stones. Then I carved Native American inspired designs into them. Working with my old friend and first ceramics teacher in Spain, Teresa Marta Batalla,  we placed them in a metal container filled with wood. We added oxides and salts. Once the winds died down, it was lit and left to burn. The firing lasted about 10 hours.
This photo shows them fresh out of the "kiln". Once I clean them and add a layer of wax polish the colors will show up even better.

Ceramics and healing

Working with clay is a centering, mystical and transformative experience for me. All my pieces are made with loving reverence and they transform a part of Mother Earth into a vessel of love, nourishing each user's body and soul.

Hand-crafted ceramics bring me back to the Earth. When I touch, form and hold her, I feel her love nurturing us.

I often texture wheel-thrown and slab-built pieces with a variety of objects, most from nature, including a piece of coral I found in Maui, Hawaii. Some of the textured pieces feature my signature lizard design. As I texture each piece I infuse it with healing energy from my heart. My Sufi teacher first explained this idea to me many years ago and my work in Sat Nam Rasayan ® has made me more effective at it.

I'm super excited to be participating in "Fantastic Handmade Market " a one-day holiday craft fair! It will be in the University of Barcelona's historic building near Plaza Catalunya. This will eliminate shipping costs for my Barcelona-based customers purchasing Elenware gifts, as well as showing my work to a larger audience.
The fair is organized by Etsy Barcelona, a very talented group of artists and craftspeople.

My Sacred Symbol necklaces and rings are now on offer in artAmore, a beautiful new shop in Sitges. ArtAmore sells unique handcrafted goods from local artisans. You can find upcycled clocks made from old vinyl records, handbags, lamps, sculptures and unique souvenirs of Sitges - all made with locally and with love.

First Women's Healing Circle of 2014: Saturday January 25th

I hope you can come and share with us this coming Saturday 25 January from 4:30 to 7:30
We meet at C / Escolas Pias , 17, 2 º 1 ª , Sitges (the narrow glass door ) .

    We'll watch a short video about 1 Billion Rising 2013 and talk about "1 Billion  Rising for justice in 2014", the global project initiated by writer Eve Ensler. We will also read the Sufi tale , Moshkel Gosha. Moshkel Gosha is an ancient Persian story that teaches how we can help remove obstacles in our lives.

    * In each circle we:

    practice a Sufi prayer of the heart and a silent meditation

   ask for a donation  that goes to a non-profit we will choose together

Also, remember to bring something to share for tea/snack and clothes you no longer want to exchange  with other women in the circle or give to a local charity.

Colors of Calcuta

I am honored to have started collaborating with the charity Colores de Calcuta by their selling my sacred symbol necklaces at their fund raising events in and around Madrid. The Spanish/Indian Anahata Foundation, through which Colores de Calcuta functions works with women and children offering health and education services in the poorest part of the poverty striken city of Calcuta. The video below shows some of the amazing work they do.
